Mike and Patricia had a fun, laid back wedding at the Trump Hotel in Chicago. We've shot at a lot of wedding venues in Chicago with good views, but the Trump has one of the best. We, along with all the guests were continuously drawn to it. With this in mind we arranged for Patricia and Mike to have a first on meeting on their terrace which has a rather unique, eye level view of the Wrigley and Tribune buildings. The amazing views wrap around the building which make even walking down the hallway a remarkable experience, not to mention dining in the Grand Ballroom.  There were several unique touches to this wedding that we both really enjoyed. One of them was the grand entrance of Tricia's adorable pug, "Napolean" during the ceremony and his inclusion in the vows. He was completely dressed up in a doggie tux complete with a hat - I loved it!  And later in the reception, Tricia surprised Mike with authentic cigar rollers.

Anne + Geoff | Wedding Social | Vancouver, BC

I've just returned from Vancouver, BC where I had the chance to work alongside Rick Collins, a respected colleague and friend, covering one of the most entertaining parties I've ever been at. Anne and Geoff organized a burlesque themed wedding social to celebrate their upcoming wedding with their friends (I think we should learn from their "party before the party" mindset!)

I wish I could show you pictures of ALL the beautiful people in attendance, in their sometimes lavish, and always fun costumes, but you'll have to settle for a few of my favorites. Keep an eye on Rick's blog for a larger selection in the coming weeks.

Megan + Sam | Wedding | Cafe Brauer

Megan and Sam got married on the 4th of July at Cafe Brauer in Chicago.  Megan is a classic Hollywood beauty and Sam is an all-American genuinely sweet guy.  Their wedding very much reflected who they are and what is important to them.  There were a number of little details and touches such as the sweets table full of little pies and fruit cups on the white and blue checkered table cloth, or the wonderful exit through the sparklers, that made this beautiful wedding feel like an intimate family party on the 4th of July.  We'll be posting a more extensive slideshow that will have all these little details and more in a few weeks, but for now, here are a few of our favorites.

WPJA Contest Win

Shortly after we posted Ran and Tjomme's slideshow we learned that one of their images won in the the Wedding Photojournalist Association international contest in the Creative Portrait category.  Dave and I are always seeking different perspectives on commonly photographed areas, and I love how this image captures the bride and groom in a unique way on the much photographed Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

This quarter's contest results were particularly unique for us because not only did one of our images place, but an image of US from our April wedding placed as well! It was quite a funny experience to look through the results and see an image of us. Congrats to Connie Miller of Studio Atticus in Boston who grabbed this shot as we exited the church. 

Ran + Tjomme | Wedding Slideshow

Here is a wider selection of the best images from Ran and Tjomme's wedding at the Alison Millar Chapel in Evanston and the Ritz Carlton Chicago. As I edited these images I was struck by the sheer joy in Ran's expression in so many of the pictures. It was so fun to shoot a wedding that was such a joyous and true celebration of who they were and to see everyone enjoying it so deeply.

DWP invited to Cake and Pictures

We were extremely honored to be one of the first photographers invited to join the new Cake and Pictures directory. Following their success in launching a directory of the country's leading commercial photographers they have launched an invitation-only website to "connect discerning brides with an exclusive directory of the very best wedding photographers..." We are very impressed with the consistent talent exhibited in their selection, and pleased to be in such good company.

Lauren + Mike | E-Session | North Av. Beach

Lauren and Mike are getting married in December at one of our very favorite venues, A New Leaf. This week we went to North Avenue beach with them for their engagement session. Mike and Lauren had awesome chemistry making this session a blast. Dave and I love doing e-sessions because each one is so unique; every couple is different, and during the engagement session we really get to learn more about them as we seek to make pictures that reflect who they are. Lauren is friends with both Megan and Alex whose weddings we're are also shooting this year, and all three of them are bridesmaids in each other's weddings! We are so excited to be able to document three friends' weddings; what an honor - and so much fun!
