DWP's images win awards in ISPWP

We wanted to to share our most recent contest wins with you all. Three of our photographs placed in the most recent International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP) contest. This group is comprised of carefully screened photographers from all over the world, and the competition is always fierce. We came in 19th over all out of a few hundred participants!  Below are our winning photos.

This photo from Shana and Josh's wedding at the Spertus took 1st place in the Bride and Groom portrait category which is traditionally the most competitive category of the contest! Check out the rest of the winners for some of the best wedding photographs made this fall.

Lauren and Mike planned a delightful winter wedding just close enough to Christmas to have that Holiday feel to it.  Their wedding at A New Leaf in Chicago was full of genuine laughter and some SERIOUS dancing. This crowd knew how to party!  Lauren's Dad, a good friend of the Chicago Catz, along with Lauren's brother got up and played for all the guests during the reception, and everyone went wild. Aside from having such a fun crowd, Mike and Lauren are two people very full of life, and that was evident throughout their wedding; I think the pictures pretty much say it all.  

Also a big thanks to Chrissy, the coordinator from Big City Bride that did a perfect job of keeping the day running on time and smoothly.

Mike + Moira | Wedding Slideshow | Zed 451 | Chicago

Katy and Mike's vintage inspired, all white wedding at the Harold Washington Library was full of delightful details.  The two met on a blind date at Piece Pizza, and so for their first look before pictures began, they saw each other at Piece.  Katy wore her mother's wedding dress; it had been restored, however they left it nearly identical to it's original state. Her look was completed with vintage jewelry, a cathedral veil for the ceremony and a bird cage veil for the reception. The decor at the reception incorporated literary aspects which was fitting given the environment; and the tree like centerpieces by the Flower Firm were simply stunning.  The Entertaining Company of course blew us away as always with their extremely delicious and very elegantly presented food.  I could go on and on about this beautiful wedding, but as I am better with pictures than words, I will leave you with a few of our favorites from the evening.

Camille and Wilson | destination engagement session | Rome, Italy

We met Camille and Wilson back in May at Jessica and Michael's wedding. It was a great surprise to receive an email from Wilson stating that they had just gotten engaged, were in Rome, and and he wanted to surprise Camille with a photo session there. A few days later I was crossing the Atlantic for what would be the shortest transatlantic trip I've ever taken (due to some previously scheduled shoots in Austin I could only spend 26 hours in Rome). We had perfect weather, and spent the whole day shooting literally all over the city. In selecting our locations I tried to avoid a lot of the tourist cliches, and sought to depict the Rome I've known and experienced: an active, vibrant, and a ridiculously romantic city. 

But Rome is Rome - what made this trip unique for me was Camille and Wilson's warmth. I felt like they were old friends and it didn't seem the least bit strange to be spending a whole day with them in Rome, 5000 miles away from where we live. I think they also have very cool chemistry, about which the photos can speak better than my words.

Ashlee + Mike | E-Session | Chicago

We were able to photograph and Ashlee and Mike's engagement session just in time before all the leaves fell off the trees.  I love how these two look together, obviously in love and very happy! Their wedding at the brand new Elysian, the most luxurious (and in my opinion also most beautiful) Chicago hotel, is just around the corner, and we're looking forward to seeing all they have planned for that day.

Rebecca + Mike | E-session | Chicago

Rebecca and Mike are getting married next October at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), another one of our favorite Chicago venues.  They both have a quiet humor about them that translates so well into photos.  We really enjoyed getting to know them better, and were grateful that despite rain half way through the session, we all still had a fabulous time.
