DWP wins multiple awards in ISPWP Contest

It had been a while since we entered any our images into contests, but we finally did so. The ISPWP contest is one of our favorites for its strong global representaion. A lot of contests claim to be international if they have a handful of contestants from other countries, but nearly half of the winning entries in the ISPWP were from photographers in other countries. If you like good wedding photography be sure to check out all the winning images. 

We are proud to announce that Dave won 5th place overall in the ISPWP worldwide quarterly contest! We are also very excited to have this image from Ariel and Jason's timeless first dance at Union Station placed 2nd in the First Dance category.

DWP images place in PDN Top Knots Contest for 2nd Consecutive Year

We are proud to announce that, for the second year in a row, two DWP images palced in the PDN Top Knots Contest! 

Photo District News (PDN) is the top photogaphy publication in the photo industry. Their yearly wedding photography contest is probably the most widely entered, and thus competitive, event in the wedding photography world. Nancy and Dave both submitted photographs, both of which, conincidently, placed in the Engagement Session category and were both shot on two different occasions when they were shooting the session solo.

Dave's winning image was made during Jill and Bryan's destination e-session at Cornell Univeristy.

Nancy's winning image was made during a Mark and Ligia's engagement session in the middle of a snow storm in Chicago.

DWP wins a Fearless Award

One of our images from this past summer recently won a FEARLESS award. The Fearless Photographers Contest is a collection of peer-reviewed images that highlights some of the boldest wedding photography photos recently created. This is an image from Amanda and Colin's wedding ceremony at 4th Presbyterian Church; Dave captured this image just before Amanda walked down the aisle. 

DWP images place in the annual PDN Top Knots Contest

We've been eager to share this news with you since we first heard back in February that two of our images had placed in the PDN Top Knots Contest. For those of you outside the photo world, Photo District News (aka PDN) is the top publication in the photo industry. They hold a yearly photo contest which is probably the most widely entered and seen contest in the wedding photography world. Having never entered before this year, we were very excited that we placed two images among the winners!

DWP wins 2nd place in Pure Art category at ISPWP contest

We're proud to announce that an image from Michelle and Jacob's wedding won second place in the Pure art category of ISPWP's worldwide quarterly contest.

A tableau wedding party portrait from Terese and Ed's wedding at the Chicago Illuminating Company, a wedding dress detail from Caitlin and Drew's wedding, a wedding dress photo from Daniella and Noah's wedding, and Missy and Jamie's e-session all placed in this quarter's contest as well.

DWP awarded 1st place in Engagement Portrait category at ISPWP Contest

I'm honored that one of my images took first place in the Summer ISPWP contest. This image was made during Mark and Ligia's engagement session last winter during a blizzard in Chicago.

What distinguishes this contest from other wedding photography contests is the strong international representation. Of the top twenty contestants, only 5 were from the US (we were one of the top 5 in the US). The quality and originality of the images that are submitted is incredible. Congratulations to Sara and Ari, Mark and Ligia, Suzie and Matt, Ashlee and Mike, and Alex and Adam! Images from each of their weddings placed in the contest.

This image was taken just outside the Art Institute in Chicago during Mark and Ligia's wedding portraits.

This is an image from Ashlee and Mike's wedding at the Elysian. I captured this shot while Ashlee was waiting for Mike before their first look.

This is Suzie and Matt during their first dance at their wedding reception.

The above image was taken during Alex and Adam's wedding in Lake Forest; Alex's lace wedding dress is on the right, and her mother's wedding dress from a few decades previous is hanging next to it.

This is one of Dave's recent images from Sara and Ari's wedding at the Spertus Museum.

And this last one was shot at the Field Museum during Suzie and Matt's wedding last September.

DWP wins 1st place in Emotional Impact category at ISPWP contest

 We're proud to announce that this image from Shana and Josh's wedding at the Spertus Institute won 1st place in the Emotional Impact category of ISPWP's quarterly worldwide wedding photography contest. Incidentally, this is the second 1st place win for images from their wedding in ISPWP's contest. 

 We also placed three different images from Chad and Michelle's dramatic proposal, one from Camille and Wilson's destination engagement session in Rome, one of Jessica and Michael's day after session, one from Katy and Mike's wedding at the Harold Washington Library, and lastly, one of from Suzie and Matt's wedding. The winning images are below in the order listed. 

 

Were also honored to announce that Dave will be on the panel of judges for next quarter's contest. Naturally, we won't be submitting any images to that one, but we are looking forward to helping select what constitutes the best in wedding photography worldwide.

DWP's images win awards in ISPWP

We wanted to to share our most recent contest wins with you all. Three of our photographs placed in the most recent International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP) contest. This group is comprised of carefully screened photographers from all over the world, and the competition is always fierce. We came in 19th over all out of a few hundred participants!  Below are our winning photos.

This photo from Shana and Josh's wedding at the Spertus took 1st place in the Bride and Groom portrait category which is traditionally the most competitive category of the contest! Check out the rest of the winners for some of the best wedding photographs made this fall. 

DWP places 5 photos in the ISPWP's Summer Contest.

We're honored that 5 of our images placed in the latest ISPWP (International Society of Wedding Photographers) Summer Contest. A big congratulations and thank you to all our couples who won.

This photograph that we shot right before Greg and Joan's wedding ceremony at the brand new Modern Wing placed in the "Motion" category. There's was the second wedding ever held there.

WPJA Contest Win

Shortly after we posted Ran and Tjomme's slideshow we learned that one of their images won in the the Wedding Photojournalist Association international contest in the Creative Portrait category.  Dave and I are always seeking different perspectives on commonly photographed areas, and I love how this image captures the bride and groom in a unique way on the much photographed Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

This quarter's contest results were particularly unique for us because not only did one of our images place, but an image of US from our April wedding placed as well! It was quite a funny experience to look through the results and see an image of us. Congrats to Connie Miller of Studio Atticus in Boston who grabbed this shot as we exited the church.
